In the spring of 2013, Brett Sylvia started creating a skeleton of the legendary sperm whale with a heart that hovers inside the rib cage with guidance from the New Bedford Whaling Museum.
Constructed from foam to make it light weight, the artist designed a system of thin rods made from bamboo to run through and hold the large skeleton together for presentation and performance resulting in a simulation and amazing illusion of swimming in air. With unique choreography and guidance, the puppet troupe performed this whale down Union Street in Downtown New Bedford during the July 5th Cape Verdean Recognition Parade, 2014, and eventually met with the historic whaling ship Charles W. Morgan on Pier 3.
